Chip Timing

The AMB system is the best on market which utilizes a chip about size of
quarter and a decoder loop. The chip is “asleep” until it gets close to
the loop at which time it “wakes up” and sends a signal to the loop. The
loop can accurately detect 80 chips simultaneously at 40 miles an hour.
The signal sent to the loop is unique to each chip. That’s how it works.

The roll out has already started with promoters of races deciding to use
me to time their event. The promoters will be passing their cost of
renting a chip from me into the entry cost. The promoters will then be
offering a rebate to riders possessing their own chip of between $3 and
$5.

There will be three ways to “possess a chip” depending on how many races
you plan to do. The first way to possess a chip is to purchase your own
outright. The second is to rent a chip for the road season, cross season
or both seasons. The third way is to simply register for a race using
chip timing. Here’s how cost structure looks.

Purchase        $95
Rent for road season $30
Rent for cross season $15
Rent for both seasons $45

If you purchase you will need to go through me for the best price or it
will be $100 plus shipping after the USAC discount. The chip comes with a
2 year manufacture warranty.
I will be sending more detail closer to the end of March on distribution
plans. If you are interested in either purchasing or renting please drop
me an email.

Races committed at this time to using chip timing for results are…
Ken Woods Memorial
Marty Road Race
Sibley Road Race
The Great Alexandria Bike Race weekend
State Crit
Tour of Granite Country
Albany Road Race
State Road Race
Green Acres Cross
Red Barn Cross
Orono Cross

I’m debating on whether to use chip timing at OPUS. If it is feasible and
cost effective for the LSC it will be.

If you have any feedback please let me know.
